Shetland


With its stunning coastline of pristine waters, caves and stacks Shetland offers a lifetime of coastline to explore. Shetland offers incredible geology, wildlife and history.

This is an 8 day intermediate to advanced sea kayaking trip for those with significant paddling experience. We will day trip from a base camp with the possibility of nights camping out from our kayaks.

Cost includes a 2 day group meet up and preparatory skills paddle on Angelsey in March.

There are 6 places on this trip. Guides will be Micro Goldhausen of Sea Kayaking Angelsey and myself, Jackie Jones.

Pre requisites:

  • Having paddled or taken a course with Jackie or Mirco .

  • Have experience in paddling a loaded Sea kayak up to 15 nautical miles (ca.30km) a day.

  • Have done at least 2 multi day trips (3-5 days).

  • You should be happy in 4-5 BFT for extended periods of time with the skill set of a BCAB Sea Kayak Award or Coastal Sea kayak Award level/holder, with solid rescue and self-rescue skills. A reliable roll would be great but is not mandatory.

We can provide you with a sea kayak, paddle, PFD and spray deck if needed, but you will need your own and personal paddling kit as well as your personal pharmacy. 

Not included: Camping kit, food, transport and accommodation.

We will be meeting on the 17:00 Aberdeen-Lerwick Northlink ferry on the 19th May or alternatively meet in Lerwick at 7:30am on 20th May. Please note: if you want to secure a cabin on the ferry please book now, if you want to secure a car please book soon. Northlink ferries offer a very flexible cancellation policy so if car share opportunities arise you can adjust your booking.
